A Build Back Fossil Free letter endorsed by a number of environmental and faith groups was discussed at the Coalition meeting on March 15, 2022. The letter, to President Biden and cabinet members including the Secretaries of Energy and Transportation and the EPA Director, describes the liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure in the U.S. Southeast and its deleterious impact on communities of color. Natural gas (methane) is, of course, one of the worst greenhouse gases, up to 80 times as powerful as carbon dioxide. The letter proposes that President Biden and the federal government halt LNG exports and regulate gas production with the purpose of replacing gas with renewables.
